In near perfect conditions, Avonvale fielded a side with a few changes from the previous week. From the start, the pack were solid in the set pieces but did not dominate in the loose. The Trowbridge pack competed well and secured their fair share of ball from the rucks and mauls, but it was clear that the Avonvale backs had the better of their opposition after a hesitant start.
Avonvale took the lead after about 5 minutes with a penalty from Steven Bath from just on the Trowbridge 22. From then on, the Backs got into their stride with some electric running from Alex Fereday, who scored 3 excellent individual tries in the first half.
At half time Avonvale made wholesale changes in the pack and lost some of their set piece solidity. Notwithstanding that, and the replacement of Fereday through injury, additional scores from Stephen Bath and Gary Abbott, with 2 tries each, ensured that Avonvale came out clear victors.
Not conceding defeat easily, Trowbridge scored 2 late tries through the concerted effort of their forwards who successfully recycled the loose ball to apply pressure around the base of the ruck.
